The Visitor

When the snow has fallen, one of the interesting things to observe is the pattern of footprints around the house.  Often, children will run through the yard, or we’ll see the trail of the gas meter reader.
Yesterday, we found an interesting set of prints on our doormat: a single set of bird prints. From what [...]

Looking Forward To Spring

Spring is a long way off yet here in Ohio. I was reviewing some pictures I took in 2008 while in Prairie Oaks metro park and am looking forward to seeing some greenery and life soon in 2009.
For now, I’ll try to enjoy the winter walks.

Great View of the Chicago Skyline

We had a great weekend in Chicago. This picture was taken from the condo we rented on the 49th floor of 175 North Harbor. We had a perfect view of Lakeshore Drive, Millenium Park, Cloud Gate, Grant Park, Shedd’s Aquarium, The Field Museum, The Art Museum much of Michigan Avenue and of course Lake Michigan.
I [...]

Brutus, can you spare a penny?

At the foot of the Blarney Brutus, there are quite a few spare pennies glued to the pedestal — pretty well, I might add.  I am not exactly familiar with the significance of the penny here, except the old adage, ‘Find a penny, pick it up, all day long you’ll have good luck’.  Are there [...]

Alumni Brutus

When I first rushed to see all of the Brutus on Parade statues, not all of them were there. Rebecca and I went to see them again while on a bike ride recently. I really liked this Alumni Brutus. Since I am one, I felt I belonged in this picture.

The rear shot just captures a [...]

Block-O on the Bridge

I have crossed the Lane Avenue Bridge many times since it opened and have always thought it a beautiful  piece of construction.  Last weekend, I saw something about the bridge I hadn’t previously noticed.  Adorning the posts of the cable stay bridge are some ornamentation that must be a nod to Block-O.  Perhaps a minor [...]

Bicycle Boulevard

While taking a bike ride from Antrim Park to The Ohio State campus, we noticed that the part of the trail from North Broadway and continuing South has now been named Bicycle Boulevard. Beyond giving it the name, they have improved the path with good pavement. It is a great ride in the fall.

Take N’ Bake Flowers

I saw this sign for a business in Lakeside, OH over the weekend. MMMMM…. baked flowers.

Ohio State vs. Youngstown State Video

Rebecca went to the Ohio State football season opener and put together the video above. Not bad for one of her first uses of iMovie. She put it together quite rapidly and easily.

RIP (Roasted In Parchment) Coffee

Here is a picture taken of my first batch roasting RIP (Roasted In Parchment) coffee. I won’t know for a bit how the coffee turned out. The biggest difference in roasting this kind of coffee is that the visual and auditory cues are muted and different than when roasting green coffee sans parchment. Notice the [...]
